The Picayune, Mississippi, city council honored 6-year-old Cornelius Fairley after he called 911 in February, potentially saving his mother’s life.
Fairley, whose favorite superhero is Batman, became a real-life hero when he called 911 after finding his mother unconscious from a seizure, WLOX reported Feb. 28.
“I called 911 because she wasn’t waking up,” Fairley told the outlet. Fairley’s mother received a diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer Dec. 19, 2022, WLOX reported.
“Thank You Jesus because without him having the knowledge to do so, we don’t know what would’ve happened,” Fairley’s grandmother, Cornelia Andrews, told the outlet. Although the cancer has spread to various organs, the family’s spirits remain high because of Fairley and their faith, she added.

Fairley always thinks of his mother’s needs before his own, Andrews continued, according to WLOX. “You know some kids go into the store ‘can I have this for myself, can I have this.’ But he was more so trying to get something that would give a smile on his mommy’s face.”
“I love you mommy and I hope you come back soon or if the hospital tells you that you have to come back home,” Fairley said.

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help support Fairley’s mother, titled “Supporting Cornissia Fight Against Cancer.”
