“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said Tuesday it is “sad” that former President Donald Trump is being indicted and arraigned.

The co-hosts discussed the arraignment of Trump at the criminal court in Manhattan Tuesday over the indictment by a Manhattan grand jury. The former president is indicted for allegedly paying $130,000 in hush money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels to remain silent about their alleged extramarital affair before the 2016 presidential election.

“It’s sad, but I’m glad something’s happening,” Goldberg said.

“It’s not sad, what’s sad?” co-host Joy Behar pushed back.

“Well, it’s sad that an American president —” Goldberg explained.

“That he’s being called in for questioning et cetera and he’s being indicted because he committed certain crimes is not sad, that’s American justice,” Behar said.

“It’s the first time in any of our lifetimes, and I don’t think any of us could have really imagined this,” Goldberg said.

“I imagined it,” co-host Sunny Hostin said.

“With him, no, but I mean with other presidents,” Goldberg said. (RELATED: Ana Navarro Says Republicans Are ‘Secretly Happy’ About Trump Indictment)

Hostin said she could never imagine former President Barack Obama being indicted, and Goldberg added that “even” with former President George W. Bush, she never expected he would be charged with a crime.

Hostin then noted that former President Richard Nixon, who “was able to get out of some things,” while co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that although Nixon escaped impeachment and prosecution, he did from office in 1974 over the Watergate scandal.

Griffin then said Trump is “spiraling” over the indictment, knowing he will go down in history as the first former president to be criminally indicted. She said his team is “freaking out” over a potential gag order that would prevent Trump from publicly discussing the case and “spin the public.”

Co-host Sara Haines chimed in to criticize the media’s coverage of Trump’s arraignment.

“The coverage is a little ridiculous right now. I do not need to see every part in the sky when the plane takes off,” she said. “Like, we’re deciding what people are watching and I wish cable news would step up a little bit and add some vegetables into this meal.”

Trump has denied any wrongdoing in the case and accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of politically persecuting him.
