The Philadelphia Eagles locked up their man!

One of the biggest priorities for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason was to sign star quarterback Jalen Hurts to a contract extension, and it appears that the Bird Gang can check that off their list — a deal has been made.

Philadelphia and Hurts agreed on a five-year extension, according to an announcement from the team Monday. The contract is worth $255 million, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. $179.304 million of it will be guaranteed, the deal features a no-trade clause, and it will also make Hurts the highest-paid player in the history of the National Football League.

It’s also interesting to note that the announcement of Hurts‘ extension happened on the same day as the start of the Eagles’ offseason program.

Not the biggest shocker in the world that a deal got done.

The Philadelphia Eagles had to do this, they would have been stupid not to, so of course a contract extension was going to get done. And then on top of that, Jalen had all of the leverage being fresh off of a Super Bowl season, so yeah, not the biggest news ever. But it is important, and that’s because it has now set the stage for quarterbacks such as Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert to get massive paydays here in the near future.

And that’s why this news, ladies and gentlemen, is so key.
