Planned Parenthood launched an ad Thursday with an image of a billboard reading “Virginity is a social construct” in a move to reject “outdated” and “patriarchal” ideas.

Planned Parenthood debuted the ad on Twitter, writing, “The idea of virginity comes from outdated — let’s be real, patriarchal— ways of thinking that hurts everyone.” A billboard stating “Virginity is a social construct” accompanied the tweet.

“Bottom line: the definition of virginity is complicated, and it’s really up to you to decide what you believe,” a Planned Parenthood article addressing the topic reads. (RELATED: Supreme Court Throws Out Decision Preventing South Carolina From Defunding Planned Parenthood)

“Stressing about whether you’re a virgin is way less important than how you feel about your sexual experiences,” the article continues.

Planned Parenthood says having sex for the first time is a “very personal” experience.

“Ask yourself: are you happy with the sexual experiences you’ve had or decided not to have?” the article reads.

“Try not to worry too much about what other people do. When you lose your virginity isn’t as big a deal as making sure you and your partner are ready for sex.”

The company has launched campaigns aimed at the youth before. A youth club run by Planned Parenthood promoted “National Masturbation Month.”

Executive director of Planned Parenthood’s Center for Sex Education Bill Taverner reportedly said all people are sexual beginning at birth.

Another campaign featured a transgender person claiming abortion is a “people’s rights issue,” not just a “women’s rights issue.”
