This will make you sad and incredibly livid at the same time.
The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) was once again largely quiet during the American national anthem before Tuesday morning’s contest against Portugal. While “The Star Spangled Banner” was playing, the majority of the starting 11 refused to sing along.
Continuing the trend that has been going on throughout the tournament, Alex Morgan, Lindsey Horan and Julie Ertz were all spotted on camera singing the anthem. However, most of their teammates remained silent. The coaching staff also stayed on mute for the most part.
I was unable to find the video of the anthem before the Portugal game, but it pretty much looked like this clip from an earlier World Cup contest. Like I said, this trend has been happening the entire tourney.
Most of the U.S. Women’s soccer players refused to sing our great national anthem.

What the United States women’s team is doing is quite rare in international soccer, as it is tradition for players to sing their national anthem with an instrumental version playing in the stadium. For example, their most recent opponent Portugal has been singing their national anthem “A Portuguesa” in absolute glory.
Compare the Portuguese women’s national soccer team singing their national anthem at the women’s World Cup to how the US players sang ours. https://t.co/2wPIEY6b10 pic.twitter.com/dVVPB28D6D

And it’s not just Portugal outright belting their national anthem, the rest of the world is doing the same thing.

Heck, you can even compare USWNT to our men’s team, and there’s still a massive difference!
Why is the USMNT proud to sing our national anthem but the USWNT is not? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/DYA8vHuQtH

And meanwhile — with the exception of Morgan, Horan and Ertz — our women can barely get out a word. Sad. (RELATED: REPORT: Distributors Giving Up On Bud Light As They No Longer Expect Beer Giant To Recover From Dylan Mulvaney Fiasco)

What a disgrace, and quite frankly, how embarrassing that we have this “representing” us.
