Conservatives mocked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after she butchered Democratic Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono’s name at the Monday press briefing.
Jean-Pierre pronounced the senator’s name “Hareeno” while answering a question about the White House’s response to the devastating wildfires in Lahaina, Hawaii, that have killed at least 96 residents.
“Senator Hareeno, who I said the president spoke to just last night, she thanked the president for the immediate support federal agencies have delivered for residents of Hawaii,” Jean-Pierre said.
Conservatives immediately mocked her for the mispronunciation. (RELATED: African Journalist Simon Ateba Sues Karine, White House Secret Service For First Amendment Violation)

“On the one hand, she’s terrible at her job. On the other hand, this is about as much respect as Hirono deserves,” National Review senior writer Dan McLaughlin said.

Hirono told CNN Sunday she would not “make any excuses” for the failed communication and failure to activate the emergency sirens that would have warned the residents of the flames.
