CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers said Tuesday on CNN that “no one” watches Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson on Twitter and that his counter-programming to the Fox News debate on Wednesday will not draw viewers.
Former President Donald Trump said he would not debate Wednesday and will apparently skip all of the 2024 GOP primary debates. Carlson is set to release a pre-taped interview with Trump as the Fox News debates air.
“Given, we know, Bakari, that Donald Trump is not going to be showing up, and trying to counter-program, and then you on Thursday, you know, him turning himself in as Kevin rightly put will steal a lot of the spotlight, what do you think, because you are always in the business of giving the advice to Republicans, and what do you think that the win looks like on the debate stage tomorrow?” host Kate Bolduan asked. Sellers said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t likely to have the big “win” that some may expect, arguing he’s a poor debater. Sellers suggested South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and Former Gov. Nikki Haley could have a good night before directing his attention toward Trump’s interview with Carlson. “And just for the record, Donald Trump’s counter-programming is horrible. I don’t think anybody’s going to be watching Tucker Carlson on Twitter or X or whatever it is called now, and I don’t think anybody’s gonna be responsive to his ‘counter-programming.'”
Carlson’s first Twitter show, a 10-minute-long monologue, surpassed 100 million views within two days of posting. His views quickly surpassed Fox News’ ratings at the same time slot, with Fox still slipping in the ratings compared to when Carlson was on air and dominated the slot.
