A man stabbed his ex-girlfriend several times in the neck while dragging her down the street on Aug. 24 in Tennessee, police and witnesses claim.

An aggravated assault/domestic violence call in Nutbush drew Memphis police to the scene at 9:44 p.m., according to WREG Memphis.

A disagreement between the victim and her ex-boyfriend, Yasser Chaviano-Gomez, turned physical, the victim’s cousin said, per the outlet. Screaming could be heard from the bedroom, causing the cousin to break down the locked door after knocking, according to WREG. The cousin separated Gomez from the victim, who he was choking, according to police, per WREG. Gomez followed the victim as she immediately fled the house, and a neighbor saw the suspect dragging the victim down the street as he stabbed her repeatedly, the outlet reports.

The victim arrived at Regional One Hospital in extremely critical condition, having suffered cuts to her chin, nose, hands, left leg and neck, WREG reported.

The victim claimed Gomez threatened to kill her as she was being stabbed, according to police, the outlet reported.

Gomez was arrested and charged with first degree attempted murder and is set to appear in court on Tuesday morning, per WREG.

Gomez claims to have had four or five beers the day of the incident and claims not to remember attacking the victim, police said, per the outlet.
