CNN’s Poppy Harlow confronted Democratic New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Tuesday for imposing an emergency gun ban even though she admitted criminals likely won’t listen to the order.

Grisham issued an emergency order banning all firearms from being carried in Albuquerque for 30 days, arguing there is a public health emergency. Both open and concealed carry are prohibited. Grisham claimed gun violence is a public health emergency and cited a string of recent gun deaths as her reasoning.

During a press conference announcing the declaration, a reporter asked Grisham whether she believes that criminals, who have been responsible for the shootings that led to the ban, would follow her order.

“No,” Grisham replied flatly.

Harlow then confronted Grisham about the purpose of her ban. (RELATED: New Mexicans Do The Most American Thing Ever To Defy Second Amendment Ban)

“You said ‘no.’ Are you going to keep doing this? Thirty days, 30 days, take it up to the Supreme Court or is this about a statement right now?” Harlow pressed.

Grisham defended her response by arguing she’s always been in favor of gun control and regulations and that gun violence is “unacceptable.”

“Are you over-reaching?” Harlow pressed.

“Uh, uh, in this situation, I don’t think so,” Grisham said.

Grisham’s order has been challenged, with Albuquerque resident Foster Haines suing alongside the National Association for Gun Rights, arguing that the declaration violates the Second Amendment. The plaintiffs point to a recent Supreme Court decision, which found New York’s restrictive concealed carry law was unconstitutional.
