Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said President Joe Biden is a “heartbroken president” amid his son Hunter’s indictment and House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry.

Hunter Biden was indicted on three counts Thursday for providing false statements and knowingly possessing a gun while addicted to drugs in October 2018, according to the partially redacted court filing from the Department of Justice (DOJ). Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday announced Republicans in Congress will move forward with an impeachment inquiry into the president’s possible participation in an alleged influence-peddling scheme regarding Hunter’s overseas business dealings. “First and foremost, the politics of this are a little hard to predict,” Psaki said on “Morning Joe” Friday. “But right now, you have the president’s son — somebody he loves deeply, somebody who has very publicly struggled with drug addiction — now facing these charges, which are serious … What is tricky to watch here, and what I think we all will be watching, is ‘what do Republicans do with this on the Hill as it relates to their impeachment process baloney efforts?'”

“We didn’t see a lot of that yesterday, a lot of the tying of these charges to their impeachment efforts,” she continued. “If there are additional charges that we see from the Department of Justice … I suspect they would try to do that. But right now, what we’re looking at — and I think on the politics of this, you know, millions of Americans have dealt with family members who have dealt with drug addiction, who have dealt with alcohol addiction, who have dealt with a range of addiction. My bet is right now, this is a heartbroken president in the White House who is worried about his son, and we’re all watching to see what happens with this.”

House Republicans will launch the impeachment inquiry to further their probe into Biden’s alleged involvement in his son’s business dealings. The president and White House have repeatedly insisted he’s never spoken to Hunter about business. Hunter’s former business associate, Devon Archer, testified before the House Oversight Committee during a July 31 hearing, which raised questions as to whether Biden spread falsehoods about his alleged involvement in Hunter’s foreign business affairs. During his testimony, Archer said Hunter spoke to his father “more than 20 times about their business deals,” Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told the Daily Caller. He further said the Biden family “brand” protected Ukrainian energy company Burisma from legal scrutiny. Both Hunter Biden and Archer were appointed to Burisma’s board in 2014.

Archer also testified that Biden dined with Hunter and Russian oligarch Elena Baturina at the Washington, D.C., restaurant Café Milano in 2014.

The White House and liberals in the media have repeatedly emphasized how much Biden “loves his son” as more testimony comes out about Hunter’s gun and tax charges.
