Cam McCormick, who is currently the tight end for the Miami Hurricanes, filed a petition Tuesday with the ACC in hopes of achieving a ninth year of eligibility in 2024, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Adam Lichtenstein.
The now-25-year-old began his college football career with Oregon in 2017 and was with the Ducks program for seven years. The Pac-12 approved his request before he transferred to Miami, but now he’ll need approval from his new conference.
McCormick’s current tally of eight seasons is tied with Kyle Pugh (Northern Illinois) for the longest tenure ever in FBS college football history, according to CBS Sports. No player has ever had nine seasons of eligibility.
In his true freshman season at Oregon, McCormick was redshirted, then went on to play significant time during his second campaign with the Ducks. McCormick suffered a broken ankle in his redshirt sophomore year, requiring him to have several surgeries that kept him sidelined for almost three years.
When McCormick returned to the field last season, he played in all 13 games for Oregon — the first time in his college football career that he played the entire campaign. McCormick caught 10 passes for 66 yards and had three touchdowns on the stat sheet, including a huge score that was critical to the Ducks’ victory over Ohio State. This year for the Hurricanes, McCormick has two receptions for 28 yards.
In his career, McCormick has 20 catches for 197 yards and four touchdowns.

He said that was already granted by the PAC-12, but he obviously is no longer playing in that conference.
