The Mets and the Jets … what do I always say? … DYSFUNCTIONAL! … and here we go again.

In an absolute shocker, New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler resigned from his post amid an ongoing investigation by MLB that alleges abuse of the injured list in the 2023 campaign, according to the New York Post.

The outlet got confirmation from MLB regarding the probe, however, were unable to get clarification on the nature of it, with the league being tipped off of the alleged IL abuses in an anonymous letter. MLB plans on interviewing several Mets employees as a part of the investigation. It’s currently unclear whether or not the Mets could be facing any kind of penalty.

When the dysfunctional New York franchise was made aware of the probe by MLB, Eppler made the decision to resign rather than become a possible distraction to David Stearns and his new administration.

So New York Mets … this is so New York Mets.

I mean, damn, Eppler’s resignation only came three days after he introduced Stearns as the team’s new president of baseball operations. Eppler even used the “looking forward to working with you” line with Stearns. Ha!

This is peak Mets dysfunction after already having a season full of it, and making this whole thing even more hilarious is the fact that Eppler just dipped. He was expected to cooperate with MLB, according to the New York Post, but hasn’t spoken to anybody from the league as of Thursday night. Dude pulled the SpongeBob “Ight Imma Head Out” meme.

Straight comedy, man. And just so, so New York Mets.
