Tom Hanks’ son, Chet Hanks, punched an alleged would-be robber with his bare fists in an effort to protect his home Monday morning, according to TMZ.

Law enforcement sources close to the situation reportedly said a male suspect attempted to enter Hanks’ Los Angeles County home at roughly 3 am. Hanks went face-to-face with the suspect and reportedly punched him for trying to gain access to his home and thwarted the robbery attempt, according to TMZ.

By the time police arrived to the scene of the incident, Hanks had already gotten physical with the male suspect, and the physical nature of the alleged robber’s encounter began to escalate even more, TMZ reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly attempted to subdue the man, but he allegedly resisted arrest and kept fighting the officers. Police were finally able to handcuff the suspect, according to TMZ.

The male suspect at some point during the physically aggressive exchange, and in spite of being locked in handcuffs, managed to fall backwards on top of one of the deputies, who ended up suffering from a broken leg, according to TMZ.

Both the suspect and the injured police officer were reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and medical treatment.

As soon as the doctors were able to medically clear the alleged suspect, he was officially charged with burglary, according to TMZ. (RELATED: REPORT: Music Producer Holds Intruder At Gunpoint Until Police Arrive)
