A television personality detailed her experience turning down sedation during an oral surgery.

Ree Drummond revealed on her Instagram story that she recently had her wisdom teeth removed without anesthesia, according to People.

“I am 54 years old, and I got one of my wisdom teeth pulled two days ago,” Drummond wrote above what appears to be a New Year’s Eve photo with her daughter, Paige, and Paige’s friend, Anna. “I even asked the oral surgeon if I could take my wisdom tooth home. He said yes. I declined.”

“I also declined sedation,” Drummond continued. “It made me feel alive. It reminded me of my one natural childbirth (Bryce). I felt elated afterward! Ok bye.”

Wisdom teeth without room to grow in the mouth can cause pain, infection and other dental problems, according to Mayo Clinic. Wisdom teeth commonly emerge between the ages of 17 and 21, according to Colgate.

Humans typically have four wisdom teeth, located in the back of each corner of the mouth, which can be removed through surgery by a dentist or oral surgeon to alleviate discomfort, according to Mayo Clinic. Anesthesia is typically administered through an IV during wisdom tooth removal surgery to sedate the patient. (RELATED: Disfigured Woman Sues Dentist Who Allegedly Rushed 20 Fillings)

“I miss my toofie,” Drummond wrote with a tooth emoji.

The “Pioneer Women” star previously expressed intent to improve her health and lifestyle, People reported. She announced a 55-lb weight loss in February 2022, stating that portion control, limiting alcohol consumption, lifting weights and increasing general physical activity helped her reach her goal.
