Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly criticized those outraged that the film “Barbie” did not receive more Academy Award nominations.
Kelly poked fun at “very angry” feminists who believe actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were “entitled” to Academy Awards nominations for their work on the film “Barbie” in an episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show” published Thursday.
“It’s so ridiculous,” Kelly said. “All the women we choose need to be nominated for the positions we think, otherwise, the fucking patriarchy. That’s literally what they’re tweeting out.”
Kelly mentioned that actress America Ferrera was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Gerwig and her screenwriter partner Noah Baumbach were nominated for Best Screenplay for the summer blockbuster film.

“They made a movie about the patriarchy and the patriarchy kept them down,” Kelly said, tongue-in-cheek. “Did they keep America Ferrera down? Because she seems really thrilled that she got this nomination for Best Supporting Actress. And Greta got a nod as Best Screenwriter. But it’s never enough.”
The cast of “Barbie” blasted the Academy Awards after the nominees were announced. Actor Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, told Variety, “there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”

Failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton stood in solidarity with Gerwig and Robbie after they were snubbed by the Academy Awards in a social media post Wednesday. “That’s not enough, you see,” Kelly said. “You’re a misogynist unless you actually make Margot Robbie the nominee for Best Actress and recognize Greta in her directing role. And that’s just how life works.”
