“Princess Bride” actor Cary Elwes reportedly alleges someone helped themselves to roughly $100,000 in valuables from his home, and he thinks it’s an inside job, police sources say.
The famous actor said he is missing a lot of cash, some art and some jewelry items he had kept in his Malibu home, law enforcement sources told TMZ. The Los Angeles Police Department has reportedly since launched a full investigation into the matter. Law enforcement sources told the outlet they are not investigating this as a smash-and-grab crime, which sets this particular investigation apart from others, as Hollywood burglaries continue to rise in the area.
Sources with direct knowledge of the matter said the working theory at this time is that someone close to Elwes took advantage of their relationship and the trust bestowed upon them, and has been slowly taking items from the famous actor’s estate, TMZ reported. Law enforcement officials reportedly said they believe the person behind this crime is someone Elwes knows, and likely someone employed by him to work inside his home.
They said they believe it’s possible that someone close to Elwes may have been stealing from him for quite some time — possibly years — without being detected until now, according to TMZ.
It’s not clear what prompted Elwes to take note of the situation at this time, yet he filed a police report as soon as he noticed his possessions were missing, sources told TMZ. (RELATED: Masked Burglars Raid Keanu Reeves’ Home, But Only Steal One Thing: REPORT)
There were no reports listing the specific items that the famous actor is missing, and it’s not clear if Elwes has completed a full tall of his personal belongings to ensure he has accounted for everything that may have possibly been taken from him.
