Actor Michael Stuhlbarg was reportedly attacked by a homeless man in New York City late Sunday night, police say.

Stuhlbarg, 55, was jogging through the Upper East Side at around 7:45 p.m. when a 27-year-old male allegedly struck the back of his neck with a rock, law enforcement apparently told PageSix. The alleged attacker was identified as Xavier Israel by the outlet, whom the actor pursued following the alleged attack. Stuhlbarg apparently followed him to the front of the Russian Consulate where he was apprehended by New York Police Department officers, sources told the outlet.

Israel was charged for the alleged assault and taken into custody, police told Page Six. He has three prior arrests, two for assault and one for robbery, the outlet reported. Stuhlbarg reportedly did not require medical attention for his injuries.

Stuhlbarg is best known for roles in hits like “Dopesick,” “The Shape of Water” and “Arrival.” Despite only having a little over 55 credits to his name, he is considered quite the serious actor for taking on myriad roles in seemingly every genre and mode of entertainment, including the stage.

He joins the ranks of countless other actors, celebrities and other U.S. residents who’ve been attacked and/or murdered by homeless people and criminals throughout America’s predominantly Democrat-run cities over the last several years. Other examples include “NCIS” actor Pauley Perrette, who was attacked in Hollywood in 2015, police said. Marvel star Frank Grillo’s boxing trainer was reportedly shot and killed, also in Los Angeles, in 2022. British singer Tom Grennan was also attacked and robbed in New York in 2022, suffering a ruptured ear, torn eardrum and issues with his jaw, his management team said on social media.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked by a homeless man inside of his home in 2022. The perpetrator was found guilty in November. To-date, it is unclear what any politicians are doing to stop the homeless, criminal and mental illness crisis in the U.S.
